Meet the Artist

D. Bethany Medrea

Like many artists, creativity is an escape for me. A place where imagination can roam free, bringing joy and comfort to my soul. As a child I always got lost in mixing of paints, fascinated by color. I tried to replicate the world through my eyes, but unfortunately, I was never any good. My art was flat out terrible. It was not until I got into high school where I met a wonderful art teacher who put an assortment of materials and mediums in my hands. That is when something clicked and my artworks drastically improved. During that time most of my works consisted of landscape, graphite portraits and an abundance of flowers. It never crossed my mind that one day if would be drawing cars

I grew up in a family of car enthusiast and self-proclaimed mechanics by hobby. I would often be out alongside watching them work and lending a hand. Fascinated by the mechanics and inner workings of the car, but more importantly the design. We were always talking turbos and body kits. Test drives, donuts and drifts were always a blast. I fell in love with speed, especially once I got my license. The first proper sports car I ever drove was a 928 Porsche. The way it dipped through the curves at speeds a little too high. That was it, I became obsessed.

One day I decided to draw a Cayman GT4, and to my surprise it did not turn out half bad. With each drawing there was visible improvement. This sparked my passion. The positive reactions from others only deepened it. The way their faces light up, brings pure joy to my soul and a sense of fulfillment.

To be able to draw cars for a living, is a life’s dream. One I hope to never wake up from.
